The Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) Commission has expressed regret over the recent expulsion of its Representative in Mali.

The transitional authorities on Monday, October 25 expelled Hamidou Boly for actions said to be “incompatible to his status”.

He was given a 3-day ultimatum to leave the country.

But a statement issued by the Ecowas Commission last week described the decision as “extreme measure”.

“This extreme measure comes at an important and delicate time characterised by the support to the political transition in Mali by ECOWAS and other partners in a complex security situation.

“It also comes at a time when the process of recalling the Representative to the Commission was already underway to ensure his replacement in the best possible way.”

The West African bloc chaired by Ghana’s Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, however, assured that it remains committed to efforts to support “successful” and “peaceful” transition.
