It’s been 365 days of Hon. Nicholas Amankwa,s office as member of Parliament for the good people of Wassa Amenfi East and as key stakeholders of the Constituency, we feel obliged to let the public know about his below average performance so far and to call on him to up his game as the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic resumes sitting to begin the second session in the life of this current Parliament.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s has been 365 days of no show on the floor of Parliament, 365 days of not a single project lobbied for or initiated by the Hon. Nicholas Amankwa.

Our constituents will recall that the NDC in the Amenfi East were so loud in the 2020 electioneering campaign on the need to elect some one who was very vocal and could champion the Amenfi East development agenda in and outside Parliament. The NDC were loud and clear that we needed someone who could speak on the floor of Parliament and that the NPPs candidate Ing. Edward Amo Kwaw could not do that so then candidate Hon. Nicholas Amankwa was best fit for the job. However, ladies and gentlemen after 365 days in office, our member of Parliament Hon. Nicholas Amankwa is yet to be heard on floor of Parliament inviting sector ministers to answer questions relative to the development of Wassa Amenfi East Constituency, something his colleague first time NDC MPs including those of Medina and Adentan and many others have done so well..Our point is that Hon. Nicholas Amankwa can equally do same to draw the attention of various sector ministers to our constituency. The people of Wassa Amenfi East Constituency were made to believe that we have an “ORATOR” for MP. However after 365 days, we are yet to see any mark of an “ORATOR” in him.

Secondly..Our Hon. Member of Parliament, apart from distributing some street bulbs given to all MPs by the Energy Ministry, is yet to initiate a single impactful project of his own in the Constituency after 365 days in office. On youth empowerment our MP has failed woefully even though he is a member of the Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises Committee of Parliament. The member of Parliament made and continues to make promises with the most recent one being made at an event organized by Amenfiman Rural Bank to climax their 40th anniversary celebration. At the said event in May 2021 , the MP promised to start, in June 2021, the construction of children’s ward at the Wassa Akropong government hospital. Several months down the line, the project is yet to kick off.
We want to put on record that the MPs and his communicators claims that there is no common fund to start a project isn’t true and that as we speak the government has released 3 quarters of 2021 Common fund out of which has written a memo to the Municipal Assembly demanding the release of sisxty thousand gh cedis (60000) to cover some expenditure he made during the Christmas festivities being supply of Jerseys, footballs etc.

Again, we want to point out to our MP that even as he spends his common fund on what we call ” not so impactful projects” and turn around to accuse government for lack of funds, he should not rely solely on common fund for development as this is a hall mark of an incompetent MP. A competent MP can equally rely on NGOs, Faith Based Organizations and Philanthropists within the Municipality to enable him secure funds and initiate projects. Let no one believe that an opposition MP cannot perform as that excuse is for only “never do well MPs”. whether in government or opposition, a competent MP can perform effectively.

We want to reiterate that Wassa Amenfi East Constituency is fortunate to have an award winning and history making CEO of the GHANA COCOBOD who has secured more than 5 major road projects that are currently under construction.
Our MCE Hon. Frederick Korankye who is barley there months in office has also been able to reshaped the Akropong- Ashyireso and Japa – Gyaman roads, lobbied for rural telephony projects from GIFEC for Asesansu and Boyekrom communities after seeing to the completiom of a similar project at Wassa Mampong, donated money towards the construction of a toilet facility at Nyame Na Aye herbal clinic at Wassa Grumisa and also gotten contractors back to site to complete a health center project at Wassa Adjumako. Our MP must therefore come to the party as far as the development of Wassa Amenfi East is concerned.

As Parliament resumes sitting in the coming days, we urge our member of Parliament Hon. Nicholas Amankwa to up his game on the floor Parliament especially by asking questions to draw sector ministers, attention to Wassa Amenfi East and also initiate projects in the Constituency..His constituents want to feel some “magic” because that’s what he promised.

We will be monitoring.
Thank you.
