Sunyani, Mar. 26, GNA – Police Superintendent Stella Sedame, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Police Service has said a total of 465 drivers were convicted for flouting various traffic regulations in 2017.

She disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday in Sunyani.

Madam Sedame said over-speeding, driving without license, over-loading, using of expired documents, driving under the influence of alcohol and worn out tyres were some of the offences.

P/Supt. Sedame announced that an amount of GH¢191,612.00 Court fines were paid into the Consolidated Fund.

She said out of 499 cases, 487 were processed for Court and explained that 465 were convicted, 23 were awaiting trial and while 10 are under investigations.

She said bench warrant had been issued for the arrest of some six drivers, whilst 15 were jailed and 12 discharged, P/Supt.

She warned that drivers who committed road offences would be arrested and prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.

P/Supt. Sedame said Police were putting in more efforts to ensure safety on the roads and advised that drivers must also follow and observe road traffic regulations to complement these efforts.
