Contracts for Agenda 111 hospitals were awarded legally – Oppong Nkrumah

The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has rubbished allegations that the contracts for the Agenda 111 hospitals project were illegally awarded.

According to him, contrary to the allegations made by critics particular in the minority, government did due diligence before giving out any of the project to a contractor.

“We have noticed deliberate politically -motivated claims of impropriety being cooked up against the project. This includes a recent claim by the MP for North Dayi that the project was illegally awarded.
“Government assures the public that all the contracts associated with the project were legally granted in accordance with approval from the Public Procurement Act,” Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said at a press briefing on Sunday, September 5, 2021.
Among many other key issues touched on, the Information Minister also denied allegations that the government has inflated contracts for the projects.

He said the needed due diligence was done to ensure the government was not short-changed in the construction of any of the hospitals.

As announced by President Akufo-Addo, 88 of the hospitals under the Agenda 111 hospitals project will be completed by 2023.

The project is being undertaken to bridge the infrastructure deficit in the country’s health sector to ensure every Ghanaian has access to quality health care when needed.

Each of the hospitals is estimated to cost a little over $16 million.
