The need for our youth to be gainfully employed is the desire for many if not all. There has to be a solid foundation in the approach to giving jobs to our youth. The Youth must know the essence of working and the reasons/benefits of being employed. Not just being employed but also to be in employment.

Challenges are bound to exist and surely they exist. We need solutions and it is in finding sustainable solutions to these problems that we can truly say that we have reached the stage of solving our problems.

Casting our eyes round, we see so many challenges which need to be fixed. The question is, What is there to be fixed, who can fix it and who is ready to fix it?

Ahafo Region is an agriculture dependent area with vast potential to change the living standards of it’s people. However, the challenges of Technological know-how, lack of adequate training, lack of knowledge transfer are all reasons why our populace has seemingly failed to utilize technology to leverage on our agriculture potential to vitalize our economy.

Based on the above, AMEND Foundation in collaboration with Coders Who Travel and Microsoft decided to take the bull by the horn.
How? We designed a program specially tailored for the Ahafo Region taking into consideration the needs of the Region. We assembled Coders, Entrepreneurs, Business Development specialists particularly with interest in Agribusinesses to launch a platform at the doorsteps of participants.

The Establishment of Technological Footprints as a theme meant that we brought to our participants useful and essential Technological tools, concepts and best practices to aid Business Development in the Agriculture sector. Our focus on agribusinesses allowed us to have in depth discussions on the way forward to create employment within the Region and beyond, through Entrepreneurship.

50 in house participants with about 30 of them being students of Kukuom Agric Secondary School. We had about 50 participants joining us online for various sessions. These are great milestones. This bespoke program combined zoom presentations from renowned industry professionals in US, Italy and Ghana with in- house facilitators including Joseph Lawrence Hammond, Naa Bia Al-Hassan, Kwame Afreh-Sika, Bright Kwaku Bobby, Priscilla Tettehgah and Leslie Tornye all from Coders Who Travel.

The panelists included Sharine Kwartemaa Oppong (from Yamfo) Founder of Sharearly Foundation, Yayah the Baobab Entrepreneur from Ahafo Mim.

Significant progress was chalked and the following are some of the great outcomes of this event.

AMEND Foundation, through the Founder ( Ing. Kobby Amoa-Mensah) announced the establishment of the AMEND Entrepreneurship Fund. A seed amount of 5, 000 Ghana cedis was earmarked to support an Agribusiness venture. The eligible candidate should have been a participant of the program.

The AMEND Skills and Knowledge Hub for Entrepreneurs And Innovation was also introduced to the participants. The hub will take the participants as its first batch of trainees. Look out for ASK Hub 4 Innovation Entrepreneurs.

In collaboration with Coders Who Travel and Microsoft, we are also considering to set up a Skills and Knowledge Center providing Walk in services and support for budding Entrepreneurs in Agribusinesses and Secular economy space.

Afia Owusu Fofie, Snr Consultant with Deloitte Consulting, US and Founder of Coders Who Travel expressed her optimism and delight when the program came to an end. ‘This Bespoke workshop shows that with the right collaboration and guided effort and support, real change can be brought to poor rural communities to improve livelihoods through technology and Agribusinesses.

Microsoft Community Development Specialist, Karla Villalobos who played an instrumental role in the workshops, showcased the desire of Microsoft to aid and develop disadvantaged communities through leveraging on Technology skills transfer, training and support. ‘ Our interest is to bring technology to communities such as yours to make the world a better place, and we are open to ways of supporting such great ventures in remote parts of Africa.’

Despite challenges with internet connectivity and power outages, we have shown that with proper planning and commitment, we can play our vital roles in our global world to promote Development according to The Founder of AMEND Foundation, Hon. Ing. Kobby Amoa-Mensah.
