The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Dr. Freda Akosua Prempeh, recently participated in the prestigious World Water Week held in Stockholm, Sweden from 20-24 August. This annual event, which has been taking place since 1991, is the leading conference on global water issues and is jointly organized by various international organizations.

As a panelist, Hon. Dr. Freda Prempeh contributed to discussions on the Presidential compact on WASH at the Heads of State Initiatives meeting during the conference. She emphasized her Ministry’s commitment to completing work on the compact and ensuring its successful implementation.

The Minister was also present at the launch of Africa’s Voice on Water Magazine, which aims to foster knowledge exchange and collaborative information sharing among African countries. Hon. Dr. Freda Prempeh commended the initiative and expressed her belief that it will significantly contribute to improving WASH services on the African continent.

During the conference, the Minister seized the opportunity to meet with prominent figures in the field of water and sanitation. She held discussions with Ms. Nancy Eslick, the Global Water Coordinator at USAID, to explore ways of enhancing collaboration between the Ministry and USAID’s WASH Project in Ghana.

Furthermore, Hon. Dr. Freda Prempeh engaged in talks with Ms. Catarina de Albuquergue, the Chief Executive Officer of SWA (Sanitation and Water for All). She expressed Ghana’s dedication to the development of the Presidential Compact on WASH and expressed her gratitude for SWA’s ongoing support to the country.

Accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Water and Sanitation as well as Ghana Water Limited, the Minister’s participation in the 2023 World Water Week demonstrated Ghana’s commitment to addressing water-related challenges and promoting sustainable solutions in the country.
