Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister for Food and Agriculture, on Sunday, September 5, 2021, joined President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to officially commission the GH¢6.7 million Sefwi Akontombra Rice Processing Factory, as part of his 2-day tour of the Western-North Region.

The Rice Factory was constructed under the 1-District-1-Factory Common User Facility (CUF), which is an agro-industrial factory established by the Rural Enterprises Programme (REP) under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a man the President passionately calls his bosom friend noted that the factory is hugely inspired by the President’s resolve to expanding the rice industry and increasing production.

He added that the Ministry works hard to achieve self-sufficiency in rice production for the nation to reduce importation by 2024/25 through the flagship Planting for Food and Jobs initiative.

“It is a state-of-the-art rice facility, with the capacity to produce between 1.5 and 2.8 tonnes of processed rice per hour, and will employ some 718 people,” Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto added.
