Culture is our way of life and moulds every fiber of human existence. Our way of life is to uphold the future and make it bright for the young generation. Ekumfi Abor hold high esteem the Puberty Rite ceremony for young women to prepare them both physically, Mentally and emotionally into adulthood.

Nana Amoasi VII Ankobeahen of Ekumfi Traditional Area and the Odikro of Ekumfi Abor and the people of Ekumfi Abor over the weekend held their annual Home-coming an initiative which brings home citizen from far and near to support the development of their community. As part of the celebration newly initiated young women dressed in beautiful Kente cloth with best of African beads, Scarfs and Ahembaa(sandals) through the Fante culture marked their entry into adulthood.

Nananom and people of Ekumfi Abor beliefs this tradition and it’s ceremony exposes these young girls to good morals and help them get exposure to what is ahead of them as women in future. Well cultured Nananom Ahembaa in Abor were their handlers and took them through vigorous lessons.

It’s wealthy of notice that this practice has helped in greater part to curb teenage adolescent pregnancies in Ekumfi Abor. For their prices for taking care of themselves, they were given gifts which includes sewing machines and cash price. Those in JHS were promised a package when they are entering SHS and those in SHS will have a scholarship from a group called Abor Professionals.

All these are being done to protect these young girls from indulging in immoral activities that may halt their future gains. Parents of these young ladies were advised to protect them as this in itself doesn’t guarantee maturity into marriage but prepares their minds for the future.

Nana Amoasi VII in his view edges our traditional leaders to find ways between tradition and modernity and blend them to maintain cultures that are relevant to our society and cultural setup.
