The Secretary-General of te United Nations (UN) António Guterres has met with Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana.

The two personalities had discussions on wide range of issues.

“Secretary-General António Guterres (right) meets with Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana,” the GhanaUN tweeted on Wednesday January 19.

Ghana recently joined the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday January 4 that “Ghana together with Albania, Brazil, Gabon and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday, 4th January, 2022, participated in a flag ceremony to mark the beginning of their membership of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2022 to 2023.”

The brief ceremony took place at the Media Stakeout Area of the Security Council.

In his remarks, the Permanent Representative of Ghana to the UN, Ambassador Harold A. Agyeman stated that Ghana will seek to work with other Council members.

to promote international peace and security, including through effective peace keeping, in order to achieve the SDGs. Africa, he stressed, will be Ghana’s first priority.
