The Member of Parliament (MP) for Adaklu Constituency, Governs Kwame Agbodza has rubbished the declaration from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that his government has constructed more roads than any other government in the history of the country.

Delivering his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, in Parliament, the President said, “It is in the road sector that we have registered the greatest infrastructure achievement. I know that the word “unprecedented” is often used with careless abandon in our public discourse, but I use it carefully and purposefully.”

H.E Akufo-Addo continued “In the five years of my government, so far, more roads have been built, improved, and upgraded than at any other equivalent period under any government in the history of Ghana. Some ten thousand, eight hundred and seventy-five (10,875) kilometres of new roads have been constructed in these five (5) years.”

In a reaction on Citi News this evening, Governs Kwame Agbodza has accused the president of peddling lies.

According to the Ranking Member on the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament, if for anything at all, the President will go down in history as the president that unprecedentedly impoverished contractors.

“Where did the President get the figures from? I was so sad when the president spoke like this. What we should be concerned about is, one of the unprecedented things he has done is that he has impoverished the Ghanaian contractor to the heels. Today Ghana government owes Ghana the Ghanaian road contractors about GHS9 billion,” Governs Kwame Agbodza.

The Adaklu MP argued that the figures given by President Akufo-Addo are cooked and dared him to come out and prove where the roads can be found.

“I am challenging the president to prove the 10,800 kilometers of new roads you have built or come back and apologize to Ghanaians. If you deliberately lie you must come back and apologise,” Mr. Kwame Agbodza stressed.
