For normal Saturday that many people rest, one young man embarked on a mission to serve his party but it nearly led to his death.

On the fateful Saturday, 22nd of January 2022, Mr Obeng Marcus Noah popularly known as Ogacha, set off for Denyase from Kukuom. His objective was to help a party faithful organise the funeral of the demised father. Hon Shadrack Aboagye, the Assembly member of Denyase had lost his father. Marcus therefore deemed it in order to go there help the bereaved family in the day.

He narrates that, while on his motorcycle, he encountered a vehicle which was driving towards him. This is because the vehicle facing him was overtaking another vehicle. To avoid a head on collision with the vehicle, he was left with no option than to veer off the road into the adjoing vegetation on the road side. In his own words ‘If i did not have a helmet, i would be dead by now. I was also riding at a speed of about 40km/h at that juncture.

It is clear that Helmets save lives and low speeds also reduce severity of injuries especially for motorcyclists.

The high speeds on the roads of rural communities leaves much to be desired and it is high time the authorities developed effective strategies to reduce the fatalities and frequency of accidents on our roads.

He was rushed to a nearby health centre where he was given emergency treatment to stabilise him and thereafter transfered to Kukuom.

Many party faithfuls have visited him while other’s have called to wish him speed recovery.

Ahafonews.com has observed that many of our new roads in Asunafo South compromise the safety of the general public. The widespread outcry of residents relating to dust needs immediate attention. Apart from poor visibilty due to excessive dust having consequences on road safety, the impact of dust on the health of the public is high.
