Bolt driver’s murder case: Court orders police to return docket to AG for clearer advice

A Sekondi District Court presided over by Her Worship, Rosemary Edith Hayford, has directed the prosecutor in the murder of a Naval Officer, LS Okyere Boateng, who operated as a bolt driver in Sekondi, to send the docket back to the Attorney General’s office for clearer advice in respect to the first accused, Adolf Eshun.

The first accused, who was given a provisional charge of conspiracy to commit murder, has been cleared by the Attorney General’s office because he only connected his friends who allegedly committed the crime, to the Bolt driver.

The Presiding Judge, Her Worship, Rosemary Edith Hayford, said while the Attorney General directed that the second and third be charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder, the office’s advice was unclear and silent on what should happen to the first accused.

She, however, ordered the prosecutor to seek further clarification from the Attorney General’s office.

The two other accused persons, Patrick Baidoo, and Joseph Lord Nii Adjei Oninku are being pressed with four charges.

These include conspiracy to commit a crime – attempted robbery, causing unlawful damage and murder, and attempt to commit a crime -robbery.

The two other counts are causing unlawful damage and murder, all contrary to the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act 29).
Background

Three Senior High School (SHS) students are facing prosecution over their involvement in the burning to death of a Bolt rider at Sekondi Baka-Ano in the Western Region.

They were earlier slapped with several criminal charges.

The first accused person, Adolf Eshun is facing only one count of abetment of crime namely robbery.

Prosecutor, Inspector Jennifer Acheampong, had earlier told the court that suspect Adolf Eshun, aged 18 years on December 22, ordered Bolt for suspects Patrick Baidoo, 19 years, and Joseph Lord Ni Adjei Oninku, 17 years because they were stranded.

It later emerged that the two burnt the deceased, AB1 Okyere Boateng, who is also a Naval Officer after he resisted an attempt to snatch his vehicle.

They later allegedly poured petrol on the rider and set him ablaze.

The driver sustained burns on his face and other parts of his body. He later died at the 37 Military Hospital.
