Barely some sixteen months after going to the rescue of Epowano D/A Primary School, Unique Family and Friends Ghana have again taken another step to prove their love for humanity and society with yet another life-saving project dubbed ‘Everybody Deserves a Better Healthcare’.

The project, which took place at Anlo Beach last Saturday, sought to help parents put their children on the National Health Insurance Scheme. In all, some two hundred children of the village, from age one to seventeen, were registered on the scheme.

Speaking to JoyNews’ Gabriel Frimpong, First Director of the foundation, Mohammed Mahazu Morro, explained the foundation’s decision to choose Anlo Beach for this exercise was based on both observation and information that most residents could not afford to patronise the only CHPS Compound in the village, and as a result resorted to prayer camps, instead of seeking medical attention, when they were sick.

Asked what had been the foundation’s major challenge, the Director was quick to decry that lack of funding had been a major setback.

He said monies raised for all of the foundation’s projects thus far have come from the pockets of members of the group, most of whom are even students. He therefore appealed to the general public to support the foundation in subsequent projects.

Secretary to the Council of elders at Anlo Beach, Noble King Dugbartey, commended the foundation for the initiative. He also expressed optimism that more of such interventions in the village by government, individuals or corporate Ghana would see improved health in the village.

He described the move by the foundation as positive, adding that it would save residents the labour and cost of transportation to and from Shama Hospital, in a bid to get their children registered on the scheme.

Parents who got their children registered could not hide their joy, as they took turns to thank members of the foundation, as well as the NHIS team that were there to carry out the exercise.

On his part, the Chief of Anlo Beach expressed gratitude to the group for reaching out to the village. He was however quick to bemoan the lack of potable water in the village and appealed to agencies and individuals to save the souls of residents of the village.

Some members of the foundation chanced on the occasion to share their experiences since they joined the foundation. Madam Carolina Dogba, a business woman, said the foundation has exposed her to the diverse needs of humanity and society, and is challenged to do more to help better the lives of people.

A former contestant of Miss Western, Miss Veronica, noted that the group has really ignited her passion to extend a helping hand to the needy.

The foundation, since its birth some five years back, has embarked on several philanthropic projects, including ‘Share That Smile’ with Twin City Special School in Takoradi, and ‘One Person One Cement’, a building project at Epowano that excited GNPC to put up a six unit classroom block for the Epowano D/A Primary School. Mention can also be made of projects such as ‘You Wear I Wear’ in some three sister communities in Shama, and some kind donation to Jesus Is King Orphanage Home in Aboadze.
