The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has said no poor person will be affected by the Electronic Transactions Levy (E-levy).
The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has said no poor person will be affected by the Electronic Transactions Levy (E-levy).
He explained that this is as a result of the GHS100 exemption.
According to him, a person said to be poor in the country is someone who raises only GHS70 within a year.
The Regional Minister made this known today, Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the government’s townhall meeting on the E-levy held in the Western Region.
“The other claim is that when the e-levy is collected, it will impoverish Ghanaians but I know that poor persons won’t pay this e-levy because in this country, the only person said to be a poor person is someone who would only have GHS70 in a year but the levy has exempted transactions of up GHS100,” he said.
Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah also the E-levy when passed will ensure job creation and the construction of roads in the country as been demand by the citizens.
“It is a levy that will help all of us. It is a levy for the progress of the nation because it’s meant to create jobs, building of roads and also to protect our cyber security.
“So for me, I know it’s a good levy for all of us to support and accept it because I know the proceeds from the levy will be used for the development of the nation.”
