The Akufo Addo-Bawumia government needs to be called to order in the manner in which it is depleting the coffers of the state, according to an aide to former President Mahama, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe.

He said the action of the Akufo-Addo government is contrary to the promise to keep the protect the public purse.

In the view of the National Democratic Congress Legal Team member, there is no justification whatsoever, for the large number Ghana’s government sent to the World Leaders’ Summit of the United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow.

Speaking to Dr. Randy Abbey on Metro Television’s Good morning Ghana, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe noted that “it is not too late for the President to change course from “excessive dissipation of the nation’s resources.”

He stressed, “Thankfully they have done country by country representation to the COP, and it is clear from the numbers that we even sent numbers there bigger than some of the most advanced countries.

“What I am even finding out, which even makes it a bit terrible, is that of even the number that we sent, there was no rep from the Ghana Meteorological Service. If you are dealing with climate and its associated matters, if there is any agency of state there that has the capacity to provide the record on how well we are performing, even with climate change, it is Climate change.”

The COP26 summit, is one of the largest gatherings of world leaders to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Government received a backlash on Tuesday when claims were rife that it sent over 300 people to take part in the COP26, held from 31st October to 12th November 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland.
