Dr Hassan Ayariga, leader and founder of All people Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his recent comment that Free SHS has reduced housemaids in the country.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, says due to the implementation of the free SHS policy, there’s a shortage of young girls who hitherto would’ve been serving as housemaids in the homes of affluent families mostly in the cities, often due to the inability of their parents to pay for their secondary school education.

“In fact, when we implemented free SHS, a lot of middle-class families in Accra and other cities were finding it difficult to find house helps because the parents of the girls came for them and took them to school” he stated.

According to the Vice President, out of the 400,000 increase in SHS enrollment since the introduction of the free SHS policy, half of that number are young girls.

He said this situation increased the search for housemaids as the existing ones have left for school in the past four years.

In reaction, Dr Hassan Ayariga said he was very surprised, shocked and unhappy when he saw young ladies paraded at Bawumia’s mother funeral to match pass with head pans.

According to Dr Hassan Ayariga, the Vice President claim there is a shortage of housemaids due to free education is an empty talk that should not be taken serious.

He said if Dr Bawumia comment is anything to go by, the young Kayayei who paraded at his mothers funeral should have been enrolled into free SHS as well.

Below is Dr Hassan Ayariga statement:

Hassan Ayariga writes:

I am told Dr Bawumia says, we are in short of housemaids due to Free Education. My older brother, please stop deceiving Ghanaians. I was at your Mother’s funeral and was very surprised, shocked and unhappy when you paraded and encouraged your daughters and sisters to match pass with head-pans (KAYAYO).

Those that you paraded and encouraged on that day are still waiting for your Free Education.

Since when have we decided to parade KAYAYO to match at funeral grounds. These daughters of yours are looking for jobs. Please encourage them to stop KAYAYO and send them back to school. Kindly get them decent jobs. My humble appeal.
