First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has called on Ghanaians and corporate organisations to support victims of the Appiatse explosion to rebuild their lives and community.

Mrs Akufo-Addo made the call during the presentation of an amount of GHS50,000 to the Appiatse support fund on Thursday, 17 February 2022.

The first lady also disclosed that she had earlier made a donation to support victims of the explosion.

Mrs Akufo-Addo said: “We all have to do our bit to help restore their homes and their lives and as they say Kitua biaa nsua.”

Chairperson of the support fund, Dr Joyce Aryee, commended the first lady for the gesture.

Meanwhile, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor has said the model community that the government has promised to rebuild for the people of Appiatse will begin soon and be completed within 6-12 months.

The Minister made this known in an interview with BBC on Wednesday, 16th February, 2022, during which he also announced government’s robust plan to rebuild the community in three phases.

He explained that the first stage which has already been provided are tents and related materials for the victims to occupy in the interim. Stage two he said will see the provision of temporary structures and the third are actual construction blocks works and livelihood support for the people.
