Ghana legend, Asamoah Gyan has arrived in Cameroon for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] draw which will be held in Yaounde on Monday.

The 34-year-old has been handed an invitation by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to grace the occasion alongside other legends from the qualified countries.

Gyan was spotted in Cameroon with Nigerian and BBC journalist Mimi Fawaz who will be the co-host for the event. The former Sunderland represented Ghana at seven Africa Cup of Nations tournaments with the maiden one in 2006 held in Egypt.

The former Sunderland and Al Ain forward who now plays for Ghana Premier League side, Legon Cities scored in all of the tournaments with the exemption of the 2019 edition staged in Egypt where Ghana was eliminated in the round of 16 by Tunisia.

Ghana have been placed in Pot 2 together with Egypt, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea while hosts Cameroon, Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco and Nigeria make up the seeded countries in Pot A

Black Stars head coach C.K Akonnor and Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku left the shores of the country on Sunday for the draw.

Ghana are hoping to emerge winners having won the competition four times with the last one coming in 1982. They were finalists in 1992, 2010 and 2015 but cruelly lost the final games.

Caf and the local organising committee have revealed the 2021 Afcon opening game and final will be played at the Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé. The newly constructed facility has a capacity of 60,000.

Gyan remains the all-time top scorer with 51 goals including six which were scored at the World Cup to make him Africa’s highest-scoring player at the tournament together with Roger Milla.
