GPL: Hearts of Oak draw again as King Faisal secure third straight win

Hearts of Oak remain winless in this season’s Ghana Premier League after a contentious referee decision saw them share the spoils once again on Sunday.

The reigning champions drew 1-1 with Aduana Stars who were awarded a second-half penalty after defender Mohammed Alhassan was adjudged to have fouled his marker in the box.

Television replays showed it was a soft call by the referee but Aduana wouldn’t mind because Bright Adjei scored to cancel out Kofi Kordzi’s 9th-minute opener for the Phobians.

This draw follows last weekend’s 1-1 stalemate at WAFA and the goalless draw on the opening weekend game against Legon Cities.

Hearts are currently 11th and trail sworn rivals Asante Kotoko by six points.
Kotoko’s record of three straight wins was equalled on Sunday by their local rivals King Faisal who defeated AshantiGold.

The Kumasi-based club recorded a 2-0 win over the Miners at the Baba Yara Stadium in the Ashanti derby.

The first half produced no goal, but the home side showed great determination in the second half and were duly rewarded as Enoch Morisson and forward Ibrahim Osman scored.

Osman’s goal was his third of the season after scoring a superb brace in Faisal’s shock 3-1 win over Aduana Stars in Dormaa last weekend.

Also on Sunday, Karela United bounced back from a slow start to beat Berekum Chelsea 2-1 for their first win of the season in Ayinase.

Both teams were seeking their first three points, and the away side made a great start by opening the scoring through Bright Amponsah.

But Karela fought back to win at CAM Park. Umar Bashir scored a penalty to restore parity before midfielder Darlington Gyanfosu grabbed the winner.

David Abagna starred as Real Tamale United won for the first time after beating WAFA 2-0. The former Ashgold forward scored both goals and is now the top scorer with five goals after three games.

Berekum Chelsea bounced back to winning ways as they beat Elmina Sharks at home while Medeama’s listless start continued with a goalless draw at Eleven Wonders.

On Saturday, Dreams FC beat Accra Lions 3-1 in Dawu and Legon Cities were beaten 1-0 by Great Olympics. Cities coach Maxwell Konadu, who is Black Stars deputy coach, monitored the match from the senior national team camp.
