Event organizers, pub owners and restaurant operators who were looking to cash in on the final day of the annual Kwahu Easter and Paragliding festival were left disappointed after an over eight-hour rain on Sunday kept revelers indoors for hours.
Revelers and tourists who were also seeking to jam deep into the night and make merry were left stranded.
The rains, which started at 2:30 pm, continued deep into the night on Sunday as pubs, eateries, event grounds and streets especially the Obomeng highstreet were deserted.
“The rain has messed up our business. I haven’t made any significant sales today. I am so sad because today is the last day and I was really expecting to cash in”, one of the vendors lamented.
Some event organizers and traders who spoke about their frustrations with Citi News are however hopeful for a more successful festival next year.
“Our business has been affected by the rain this year. Today being the last day, the rains have slowed down sales.”
“We had made good plans to give our best this last day but the rains have prevented us. All my colleague spinners have packed their machines, and we are waiting for the rains to stop so that we can have some good shows tonight. No one will come to Kwahu for Easter and will leave the same, by all means you will break even so we are not so much bothered about tonight’s rain”, said another.
The annual Kwahu Easter celebration which has gained international recognition since its inception is one of the biggest tourism events on the calendar of the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).
The annual event which brings dozens of tourists from the diaspora and serves as a major revenue booster for the hospitality players in the country was put on hold for two years due to Covid-19 restrictions.
It was re-launched this year after restrictions were eased.
