Black Stars head coach Milovan Rajvac says he has absolute faith in his players defeating Ethiopia on Thursday afternoon.

It is a must-win game for the Black Stars whose aim is to win their last two games in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and progress to the final round.

“We all know what is at stake so we only have one plan, that’s to win the match and the next match. We don’t have any agenda apart from winning those matches and securing our place in the next round,” Rajevac said ahead of the Ethiopia match.

Ghana defeated Ethiopia 1-0 in the first game of the qualifiers, thanks to an unexpected strike by midfielder Mubarak Wakaso. In that game, Ghana missed several key players. On Thursday, both deputy captain Thomas Patty and experienced defender Jonathan Mensah are unavailable due to injuries.

But Rajevac is confident the 24 players available for selection can get the job done, although he acknowledges the Walias are a good side.

“I think we are playing against a very good team. If you look at the matches Ethiopia played against South Africa, I think South Africa were very lucky. We are never underestimating anybody but we know our quality and what we are capable of doing so I have absolute faith in my players. They can deliver the performance that will bring victory,” the Serb added.

Ghana are second in Group G with nine points, one behind leaders South Africa who play Zimbabwe also on Thursday in the same city.

Should both Ghana and South Africa win their respective games, the group winner will be decided on Sunday at the Cape Coast Stadium where the two meet.

The winner of the group will secure a slot in the playoffs.
