Defender Imoro Ibrahim was the hero on Sunday, scoring a stunning free-kick as Asante Kotoko defeated King Faisal 1-0 in the Ghana Premier League.

Imoro’s strike ensured that the Porcupine Warriors won the Kumasi derby at the Baba Yara Stadium to extend their lead at the top of the league to 10 points.

Kotoko came into the game determined to beat their local rivals for the first time this season after losing two games to them earlier.

And they got off to a flying start, with Imoro curling the ball into the net in the fourth minute after Kotoko were awarded a free kick.

They had more chances to score, while Faisal also had some good chances in the interesting contest.

In the first half, both teams were denied penalties.

Kotoko will be pleased with the outcome, but they must now focus on their next game, which is a big one against Hearts of Oak on Sunday, April 10.

On Sunday, Bibiani Gold Stars beat Dreams 1-0, Legon Cities overcame AshantiGold 2-0, and Karela United defeated Elmina Sharks 3-1 in Ayinase.
