The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has, on the occasion of the May Day celebration on Sunday May 1, congratulated all workers for their hard work.

The party in a statement said the workers have worked so hard, all these years with a lot of sacrifices to ensure that the wheels of growth do not come to a halt.

“Your dedication is unsurpassable and your love for our dear Nation is unprecedented,” the statement said.

It added “Ghana is the best. Without your dedication and hard work this country would not have achieved its goals and agenda of making sure that this country is Working to the benefit of all Dear Comrades the CPP is proud to be associated with you, as a Party our biggest support base precedential has been the working class in this country and through your support the CPP has chalked a lot of successes in the past.

“This day clearly reminds us that there is dignity in labour and there should be satisfaction in serving one’s nation. But are we as workers in the labour front satisfied to serve our nation.”

Regarding the e-levy which started on Sunday, the CPP said “It is surprising that the NPP government has chosen May 1st a Workers’ day to implement the punitive tax system of E-Levy which is going to erode the financial gains of the already struggling workers of Ghana, this is unbelievable This is the first time the CPP has encountered a tax system that goes after the savings of the citizenry, it is incongruous and unbelievable, such a level of insensitivity by the government cannot be comprehended by the Convention Peoples Party(CPP) an unfortunate situation indeed.

“The Labour Front deserve better and there is the need to ensure that employers especially government provide the needed amenities, incentives and commensurate remuneration that befits the effort and hard work being put in by the Ghanaian worker.

“The government should have a better plan to industrialise the nation with the view to creating jobs for the teeming unemployed and under employed youth in the country. Ghana deserves better and all her citizenry deserve more and also there is the need for us to ask the Government to be accountable to all of us in terms of the management of our financial and natural resources.

“It is time for all of us to come together to put our shoulders to wheel and ensure that Ghana is delivered from depth of deprivation and poverty. The Convention Peoples Party appreciates the selflessness of workers in Ghana and we say Ayekoo.”
