Lawyer drags police officer to PPSB over unprovoked insults

A police motor rider in Kumasi has reportedly been hauled to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) over unprofessional conduct.

A top legal practitioner, who is also based in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, is reported to have accused the police man of verbally insulting him without any provocation.

The practicing lawyer, who is also said to be a law lecturer in some of the renowned universities in Kumasi, wants the police hierarchy to sternly deal with the erring policeman.

The lawyer, name withheld for obvious reasons, bemoaned on Akoma FM on Wednesday that he was in charge of a DV plated car when he was stopped by policemen.

He said he assisted the policemen, who were then doing their usual snap motor checks, but one of the policemen hurled unprintable words at him without provocation.

According to the law practitioner, he did not disclose his identity to the policemen, noting that the policeman only wasted his time and also insulted him in public.

The lawyer said he was suffering from stomach pains at the time of the incident and his pleadings with the policeman to allow him to go and seek treatment proved futile.

According to him, one of the police motor rider’s had to intervene before he was allowed by the policeman to move from the scene, adding “I reported the case to the PPSB.”

The lawyer expressed hope that the policeman who insulted him for no apparent reason, would be punished after the PPSB had eventually concluded their investigations.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional MTTD Commander, Supt Emmanuel Adu Boahen, after listening to the lawyer on Akoma FM, assured that the case would be investigated.

He said he could not state whether the lawyer was saying the whole truth or the otherwise of the case at that time, stressing that the case would be thoroughly investigated.

Supt Adu Boahen also used the occasion to admonish policemen that embark on motor checks on the roads to always be polite to road users, especially drivers.

According to him, the police have the right to arrest people who go contrary to the law “so if the person is guilty just arrest him to face the law, but please don’t insult him/her.”

Speaking on the same programme, Prince Kumi aka ‘Maxi’, a car dealer, also complained bitterly about how police motor riders were disturbing car owners with DV plates.

“A friend of mine, called Fabio, who is also a car dealer, has just confirmed that the same policeman also hurled insults at him after stopping his car recently,” he alleged.
