The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) will today, Wednesday, September 15, go to the polls to elect new executives who will take over from the Anthony Forson -led administration.

As part of the ongoing 2021 Bar Conference in the Upper East Regional capital of Bolgatanga, members will have the opportunity to decide on who leads the Association for the next three years.

In all, there are five (5) positions to be contested. Of these, two positions: Public Relations Officer and National Secretary, have candidates running uncontested. The other three positions; President, Vice and General Secretary, are highly competitive.

For the position of the President of the Bar, the outgoing National Secretary, Yaw Acheampong Boafo, will be going head-to-head with the Greater Accra Regional President of the Association, Efua Ghartey, who is also the wife of former Railways and Development Minister, Joe Ghartey.

Both candidates come to the contest with a wealth of experience hoping that their learned colleagues will give them their mandate to lead the Association.

The position of Vice President also has two candidates facing off: Kwabena Amoako-Adjei and Yaa Gyakobo.

For the position of Treasurer, Nana Serwa Acheampong and Dr Adu Anani Antwi are up against each other to secure the mandate of members to manage their treasury.
A newly developed ICT platform has been deployed and is expected to ensure that all eligible members of the Association can participate and vote safely, peacefully and smoothly.

This year’s conference is on the theme, ‘Ensuring an increase in revenue mobilization through taxation for the purpose of accelerated national development: The role of the lawyer’. It was selected to emphasise the importance of efficient taxation to nation-building.
