Ranking member on the health committee of parliament, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has indicated that the Minority in Parliament is forced to initiate a move to have Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu removed due to the failure of President Akufo-Addo to act.

On Wednesday, February 16, 2022, all 137 Minority MPs in the house appended their signatures to file a vote of censure to begin processes to have the Minister removed.

Speaking to Citi News to confirm the filing of the motion, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh described the move as necessary, insisting that Mr. Kwaku Agyeman Manu displayed gross incompetence through his dealings with Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum in the procurement of the Sputnik-V vaccines.

“We have been of the conviction that the President, H.E Nana Akufo-Addo would have done the needful but from all indications, it looks as though the president hasn’t seen anything and he hasn’t heard anything.

“Therefore we as Members of Parliament especially from the Minority side by Article 82 have filed a motion to pass a vote of censure so that the Minister will stay away from the Ministry because we find him incompetent,” Kwabena Mintah Akandoh stressed.

The Juaboso Constituency MP added, “Clearly he lied under oath which for me is perjury and therefore the reason why we have filed a motion to pass a vote of censure.”

The Minority is calling for the head of the Health Minister following the signing of the Sputnik-V vaccines agreement without prior approval of Parliament contrary to Article 81 of the 1992 Constitution.

The Health Minister is accused by the Minority of dishonesty and is also of fibbing and misrepresenting under oath, having made a $2.85 million initial payment to the private office of Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum after he told an ad hoc committee that no payment had been made.

But Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has defended the underfire minister.

He argued that the Majority and Minority already reached a consensus on the matter last year when the ad-hoc committee release its report.
