Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, has commended President Nana Akufo-Addo for cutting sod for the construction of the 66-kilometre Agona Nkwanta – Tarkwa road project in the Western Region.
According to the Tarkwa-Nsuaem MP, the project is “the biggest investment made into a road infrastructure for the people of Tarkwa- Nsuaem and its adjoining communities by a single government.”
Mr. Mireku Duker said “on Saturday I joined H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other officials to cut sod for the re-construction of the 66km-Agona-Nkwanta-Tarkwa road network. When completed, the usual congestion along the road, especially the drudgery at Tarkwa shall be over.”

He also thanked his constituents for believing in him enough to retain him to see the “fulfillment of the historic assignment.”
The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources acknowledged the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah; Tarkwa-Nsuem MCE, Benjamin Kessie; Western Regional NPP executives, and the Tarkwa-Nsuaem NPP Constituency executives for their unflinching support towards the realisation of the project.
“I also appreciate the development-seeking Coalition of Tarkwa-Nsuaem Divisional Chiefs led by the dynamic Nana Kwabena Gyan II, Mahamo Chief, Tufuhene, and Gyaasehene of the Apinto Divisional Council for their presence and support. We thank the clergy, security apparatus, and the Media for their support towards a successful ceremony.”
The President on Saturday, September 4, 2021, cut the sod for the commencement of work on the reconstruction of the road.
The ceremony took place as part of his two-day tour of the Western Region.
Funded with a 95-million-Euro facility from Deutsche Bank AG, Frankfurt, Germany, the project is expected to be completed by August 31, 2024, i.e. 36 months.
The road project, once completed, will link Tarkwa, one of the major economic centres of Ghana, to the port city of Takoradi and to the national route, N1, which links Ghana to Cote D’Ivoire.
It also connects the mineral and agricultural rich lands in the Western, Ashanti, Western North and Central Regions to Takoradi, as it serves as the shortest and most efficient route for the transportation of gold, manganese, bauxite, timber as well as agricultural goods like cocoa, rubber and timber, to Takoradi.
