MTN Ghana Pays Over Gh₵17.1 Million In Interest To Mobile Money Subscribers For Q1 2019

MTN Ghana has commenced payment of GHC 17.1 million to   10,630 175 customers as interest earned for quarter 1, 2019.

This brings to over GH₵ 156.2 Million in interest paid to Mobile Money customers from inception of interest payment in 2016 to March 2019.  The payment, which hit subscribers’ wallets from April 28, 2019 was done in collaboration with the 17 partner banks of MTN Mobile Money.

Commenting on the interest payment for quarter one 2019, the General Manager for MTN Mobile Financial Services, Eli Hini said, “MTN’s consistent honoring of interest payments attest to our commitment in ensuring that customers of MTN Mobile Money enjoy the full benefits of the service.”

Mr. Hini urged all Mobile Money subscribers to cultivate the habit of keeping money in their wallets for their daily transactions whilst enjoying interest instead of keeping cash with its associated risk. “Keeping money in your wallet helps you to accrue more interest”. He added.

MTN Mobile Money subscribers are continuously cautioned to be vigilant and wary of fraudsters. MTN has a robust governance structure in place that safeguards the data and privacy of its customers and MTN Mobile Money service is committed to providing the highest level of security to protect its users.

In this regard, MTN has undertaken public education campaigns to encourage all our valued Mobile Money customers to be vigilant and wishes to reiterate as follows:

1. Customers must not disclose their PINs. It is their secret and they should change it if they suspect someone else knows about it.

2. Customers must not entertain calls or messages concerning their mobile money account.

3. Customers must not approve any transaction they have not initiated.

4. Customers must not give out their phones for mobile money transactions to be performed on their behalf.

There are a myriad of services available on the platform, including: Local and International Money Transfer, General Payment Services including Online Payments, Micro Savings & Loans, School fees payment, aYo Insurance, Informal Pensions, Bill Payment Services (DStv, ECG, Ghana Water Bill, Gotv, Box Office), ATM – Card less Withdrawal (expanded to six Banks ATM), Link to Bank Account (Mobile Wallet to Bank Integration and vice versa with 17 Banks) and Bulk Payments.

MTN Mobile Money services is ISO 27001 certified, and has over 10 million active users with over 115,000 active agents and 5000 canvassers as well as over 67,000 merchant points across the country.
