Non-teaching staff in GES form new group, break away from TEWU

Some employees with the Ghana Education Service (GES) have broken away from the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) to form a new group.

With over 3,000 members, the Association of Non-Teaching Staff seeks official recognition from both the GES and the government to effectively represent and address the unique needs of its members.

The decision to form this new association arose from a perceived gap in representation at the tertiary level, prompting a desire to establish an independent platform solely dedicated to the welfare and advocacy of non-teaching staff.

“We have seen that TEWU is primarily focused on the tertiary level and we needed to define our stand within the education sector,” said Daniel Mensah, the general secretary of the newly formed association.

“By establishing this association, we aim to ensure that the voices and concerns of non-teaching staff are heard and understood by the government and relevant authorities.”

“And so, the Association of Non-Teaching Staff under the GES has come to stay”, he said.

The group intends to actively engage with the GES and governmental bodies to address issues related to their employment conditions, career progression, and overall well-being.
