Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to vote for a competent flagbearer to lead the 2024 campaign.
He said the party has been known for choosing the right and qualified person to lead elections and those leaders have not been chosen based on religion nor tribe.
“The NPP brings people together,” he said on Friday, July 29 during the National Muslims Prayers to mark NPP’s 30th anniversary.
“We have fought elections on issues, we have elected people on merit and we will not make elections about you being a Christian or you being a Muslim.
“It is about what you can do for the people of Ghana. It is about your vision and what you can do so let us stick to the issue.”
The Prayers attracted top dogs of the party including new National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim.
Dr Bawumia suggested that religion should rather unite the members and bring them together for a common cause.
“Religion is a force for unity. It is not a force for division. We should never allow religion to divide us.”
A Christian Thanksgiving Service is scheduled to be held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Sunday, July 31 to mark the anniversary.
In attendance will be President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
