The Upper East Regional Police Command has confirmed shootings in three suburbs of Bawku in the Upper East region over the weekend.

The Command says the shootings took place in Kariamo Animal Market, Sabon Zongo and one other.

No one sustained injuries or died and currently, police high command from the Region is on their way to Bawku to ascertain first-hand information about the shooting.

The Upper East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) David Fianko-Okyere, who confirmed this to 3FM’s Sunrise on Monday hosted by Alfred Ocansey explained that “it happened in the morning [Sunday].

“We heard the gunshots in three suburbs and we proceeded to the area and managed the situation. We were able to restore calm in Bawku, especially in the suburbs, Kariamo animal market, Sabon Zongo and one other”.

He said “the entire Bawku is calm now and a team of regional security from the Upper East Regional Police command is proceeding to Bawku”.

“We are moving in there to pick first-hand information of the shooting and strategize our operations”, he explained.
