Pro-Alan Kyerematen groups within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have called the bluff of national executives for warning them against their planned health walk.

The groups, which are widely known to be aligned to the Trade and Industry Minister, have planned a health walk to offer support for his intention to lead the party in the 2024 presidential elections.

But the national executives of the governing NPP has issued a strong warning to the said groups to halt their health walk as they explain the move is against code of ethics issued last year.

NPP’s National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye, speaking on Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma explained that “the group will risk the chance of their prospective candidates if they organize the health walk in the name of Alan Kyerematen, because it is against the party’s code of ethics”.

“So, I will use this great platform to urge them to calm down. The time will be due for such processions but as it stands now we are not yet there so let’s allow the party processes to unfold.”

Meanwhile, one of the organizers of the Alan Kyerematen healthwalk, James Nana Prempeh, who doubles as Assembly member for Fankyenebra Electoral Area called the bluff of the executives.

“The executives cannot foil a planned health walk,” he said.

“We are loyalists of Allan Kyerematen so we want to exercise to keep ourselves fit so that when Alan wins the nod to lead the party into the 2024 polls, we will have reserved energy to campaign, so we will not call it off.”

Mr Prempeh, who chided the National Organizer, quizzed: “Why didn’t the same executives call Wontumi to order when he openly declared his support for Dr Bawumia? So for me I think Nana Boakye is just being hypocritical so we will pretend we haven’t heard their tantrums.”

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, was recently sighted in a video as he publicly declared his support for the Vice President.

Joining the discussion was a former Assembly member of Afful Nkwanta, Lawrence Adu.

He added that “the directives from the national executives is hypocritical because they overlooked while the Ashanti Regional chairman Antwi Boasiako openly declared and campaigned for Dr Bawumia hence their plans to sanction leaders of the health walk is dead on arrival”.

Dubbed ‘Aduru Woso’ walk, the intended health walk is scheduled to come off on Saturday, August 13. It is scheduled to start at exactly 5:30am when patrons kick-start their walk from Bekwai Roundabout through the principal streets of Kumasi and end at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
