Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency Francis-Xavier Sosu has withdrawn the application challenging the charges brought against him by the police following a demonstration in his constituency last year.

The police dragged the Madina MP to the Kaneshie Circuit Court for unlawful blockade of road and destruction of public property after he led some constituents in Danfa on Monday, October 25, 2021 to demonstrate against their bad roads.

He rejected the charges, giving the police a hard time to get hold of him for the court hearing to begin.

Not even a spontaneous visit to his church on Sunday, October 31, 2021 will see him nabbed by the police.

But a bench warrant was issued by the court to get him arrested.

He was, then, granted a self-recognisance bail on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

Lead counsel Victor Koogah Adawudu on Monday, February 7 told journalists after the case was recalled that following the granting of bail and acceptance of his client’s plea, the team has withdrawn an earlier application to challenge the charges.

“We had filed some applications before the court about the propriety of the charges and the jurisdiction,” lawyer Adawudu stated.

“But we decided to withdraw since his plea has been taken and he has been granted bail, already self-recognisance bail, we believe that we should go ahead, let them bring what they have against us, the basis for the charges.”

He assured sympathisers of the MP that “we think that we have a rock solid case”.

The presiding judge, Oheneba Kufuor, on Monday, February 7 granted prosecution’s request for more time to file disclosures to commence legal arguments.

“Let them bring the disclosures,” Mr Sosu’s lawyer stated.

“Once they file the disclosures, we will know the basis of the crime and we will go through it.”

The case has been adjourned to Monday, March 14.
