TANO NORTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY MARKS GREEN GHANA DAY

The Tano North Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Kwarteng, on Friday, June 10, 2022 joined forces to embark on tree planting as part of the Green Ghana Project which is geared towards improving the integrity of our ecological system.

Present at the event were, the Honourable Member of Parliament, Dr. Freda Prempeh, Traditional leaders, Regional Education Director, Security Heads, Municipal Heads of Department, Staff of the Assembly, Headmasters, Staff and Students of Boakye Tromo Senior High School and the Media.

The Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Freda Prempeh, in her address called for a concerted effort for a healthy ecosystem to enhance the livelihoods of people in the Municipality, respond to climate change and ultimately reduce the rate at which people cut down trees in our forest reserves which leads to the collapse of biodiversity.

The MCE, who spoke in an interview with the Charity and Sunyani FM said that as part of the Tano North Restoration Agenda, an effort to bring the Municipality back to its days of glory, thus, improving the ecological integrity of the Municipality, some trees had been planted to restore the logged ones. “As we have all witnessed, the trees we planted a year ago are healthy and in good shape. I would like to say a big thank you to His Excellency the President for this initiative. Also, to the Headmasters, Teachers and Students of Boakye Tromo Senior High School for the yeoman’s job done”.

He indicated that this year’s exercise had been taken a notch higher with a call by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor for Ghanaians to plant more trees to preserve the country’s forest cover and the environment.

Finally, the MCE expressed his gratitude to everyone who came to support the Green Ghana Project.
