The Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has directed that no one should be seen riding on a motor bike with a man as a passenger in the Bawku Municipality and its environs.
The directive is expected to beef up security in the area which has been going through a renewed conflict in the past months.
This, according to REGSEC has become necessary after an emergence meeting held on Thursday, January 6, 2022.
A statement signed the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, however created an exception for women.
“This ban does not include a woman riding on a motor bike and picking another woman on the same motor bike. It does not also allow a woman riding on a motor bike and picking a man on the same motor bike”, part of the statement reads.
REGSEC also agreed to provide “adequate security” to the “Total and Goil fuel filling station in Bawku Township”.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Regional Security Council has been asked to enforce the directive “with the urgency it deserves”.
