The Criminal High Court presided over by Justice Elfreda Dankyi – the newly appointed substantive judge – has granted the request of the Attorney General’s Department to file their witness statements and other disclosures necessary for the trial of five accused persons in the Saglemi affordable housing case.

Recap:
Appearing before Justice Comfort Tasiame’s court (Criminal High 4), during the legal vacation, on 4 August 2021, the accused persons denied any wrong doing to all the charges after they were read to their hearing in open court.

The court in granting the accused persons bail set same in the sum of 12.5 million dollars for the 1st accused person (Alhaji Collins Dauda). His bail, though is a self recognizance one, requires him to deposit his passport at the Registry of the High Court.

Case Management Conference:
The parties, the Court further ruled, are to reappear in court on the 22nd of December 202, for Case Management Conference (CMC) to set the parameters for the trial to begin.

First accused – Collins Dauda:
The 1st accused person Collins Dauda, has a total of thirteen (13) counts and three of the four charges, namely; Intentionally Misapplying Public Property, contrary to section 1 (2) of the Public Property Protection Act, 1977, (SMCD) 140; Willfully Causing Financial Loss to the Republic, contrary to section 179A(3)(a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29); Issuing False Certificate, contrary to section 1 and 2 of the Government Contracts (Protection) Act, 1979, AFRCD 58, applying to him.

All five accused persons have pleaded not guilty to all charges preferred against them by the state.
