The recently concluded NPP Parliamentary Primaries elections in the Ahafo region for constituencies with sitting MP’s have brought forth interesting results and raised speculations about the upcoming elections in 2024.

Let’s take a closer look at the outcomes in two key constituencies.

In Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako the spokesperson for Dr Bawumia emerged victorious with an impressive vote margin of 444, defeating the incumbent member of parliament, Hon. Freda Prempeh, who garnered 221 votes. It is worth noting that Hon. Freda Prempeh is the only female MP in the region and has been a prominent figure in local politics. This colossus of a political arena is also the Minister for Sanitation. The question now arises: will Gideon Boako be able to maintain the vote margin Hon. Freda Prempeh secured in the 2020 parliamentary General elections? As a young, vibrant, and energetic candidate, some are optimistic that Boako may even increase the vote percentage. It remains to be seen if the intense campaign pitched by the camps of the candidates will leave any effects in the constituency. It must be stated that the unity of the party is essential to retain a seat designated as a traditional NPP Stronghold.

Moving on to Asunafo North, the competition was fierce amongst the candidates. Hon. Evans Opoku Bobie MP and Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports was challenged by three party stalwarts. In the end Evans Opoku Bobie secured 639 votes, followed by Eric Boadu with 248 votes. The race also saw Nana Adu Alfred, former regional organizer of the party, who resigned from his position to contest the parliamentary primaries fail to unseat the sitting MP.

This intense competition given Hon. Bobie showed how vibrant the party is in Asunafi North.

Hon Bobie seems to have strong bond amongst the delegates but however needs to work to ensure that the winning margin between NPP and NDC attained in the 2020 general elections does not dwindle.

As the dust settles on the NPP Parliamentary Primaries in the Ahafo region, the results have sparked speculation and anticipation among the public. The outcome of these primaries raises questions about the strategies that need to be employed in the 2024 elections. Will Gideon Boako be able to build upon his victory in Tano North and increase the vote margin?

Can Evans Opoku Bobie successfully defend his seat against tough competition from Hon. Haruna BA in Asunafo North? These questions and more will unfold in the coming months as political parties gear up for another round of elections.

The constituents of the Ahafo region eagerly await the final showdown in 2024.
