Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif has sarcastically claimed he does not know the technical director of the Ghana Football Association [GFA], Bernhard Lippert.

The country’s football governing body appointed the German tactician as the head of the technical directorate for the FA in October 2020.

The decision to name a new technical director emerges after the Kurt Okraku led administration failed to renew the contract of Francis Oti Akenteng who served as the technical director for years.

Lippert’s appointment attracted a lot of criticisms from the Ghanaian football community after the likes of Bashir Hayford among other Ghanaian coaches who applied were all sidelined.

However, Hon Ussif speaking in an interview asked if he knows Mr Lippert, the lawmaker unequivocally reiterated that he does not know him.

“I don’t know anybody with the name Bernhard Lippert,” the Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori Constituency in the North East Region said on Accra based Asempa FM.

“Who is he? I only know CK Akonnor and David Duncan who are in charge of the Black Stars,” he added.

Lippert, 58-year-old, has coached Azerbaijan’s national U17, U19 and U21 teams during his 12-year stay.

He has previously also had coaching spells with German football giants Bayern Munich and English side Leeds United.
