Asunafo South Voter Registration Center Turned into Battleground as NPP Members Allegedly Assaulted
In a shocking turn of events, the voter registration process in Asunafo South has been marred by violence, as reported by eyewitnesses.
According to the reports, a group of armed individuals, allegedly affiliated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) from Ahafo Goaso, descended upon the voter registration center in Ahafo Kukuom last evening. The assailants reportedly targeted a New Patriotic Party (NPP) party agent identified as “Birdman,” who was overseeing the registration of eligible NPP supporters.
The incident resulted in a chaotic scene, with multiple gunshots fired, causing fear and panic among the residents who had come to register. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers left the NPP party agent in critical condition after the assault.
This is not the first time violence has erupted in the Asunafo South constituency during the voter registration exercise. Earlier, it was reported that the vehicle of Ing. Kobby Amoah-Mensah, the NPP’s 2020 parliamentary candidate, was set ablaze while he was on his way to campaign in Weijahkrom.
The residents of Asunafo South are now pleading with the Inspector General of Police to ensure that the security personnel tasked with overseeing the registration process are adequately resourced and empowered to maintain order. This comes in the wake of the recent arrest of Hon. Collins Dauda, a member of parliament, in connection with the earlier disturbances.
Ahafonews team will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as they unfold. We urge all political parties and their supporters to refrain from violence and allow the democratic process to take its course peacefully.
