A 23-year-old lady has fallen into a pit suspected to be dug by illegal miners also known as ‘galamseyers’ and died.

The young lady is said to have slipped into the pit whilst visiting the ladies at dawn.

In a visual aired on Onua TV/FM’s morning show Monday, October 25, 2022, the young lady who died after slipping off the pit was being pulled off the dugout by an excavator.

The sad development happened at Konongo Odumase in the Eastern Region.

The pit is situated somewhere in the middle of the community and directly behind the house of the deceased.

A resident who spoke to Onua TV disclosed the entire community is hanging due to activities of illegal miners.

He said the harms that were caused over a decade ago has developed cracks in the buildings of many including the life that was lost to a pit dug around the same time. He said the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have even cautioned some residents to eject themselves from their building considering the nature of the cracks the structures have developed.

“Nadmo have even cautioned that some houses are ejected. This pit was 2009/10 and we are seeing the results today,” he said.

Meanwhile, Captain Smart is asking the government to give him a 21-day ultimatum to end galamsey or bury him alive.

“We are not witches, we are not wizards. NIB go and arrest whoever dug that hole. If Nana Addo cannot fight the galamsey, he should give me 21 day ultimatum and 800 soldiers, 3 helicopters, if I’m not able to end it [galamsey] in 21 days, dig a hole at Gomoa Techiman and bury me alive. Whoever dares and goes to do galamsey will be killed,” he said.
