The Ashanti Region Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Andrews Nana Akwasi, has debunked a report suggesting an intent by the opposition party to further divide the Ashanti Region into three administrative regions.

Speaking to Akoma FM, the regional chairman described the publication as “evil” and an “enemy” to national unity.

“Ashantis are hospitable and for decades have coexisted peacefully with all tribes.”

He said such allegations must be disregarded and be treated with all contempt it deserves.

“Such unsubstantiated allegation is a recipe for inter-tribal tensions and must be expunged from our body politic,” he said.

Nana Akwasi further stressed that the current regional executives since their swearing-in have served Asanteman and the overlord, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and shall forever remain committed to the progress of the Ashanti Region.

“The Asantehene is a unifier and we shall continue to support him aside our political duties in ensuring his Kingdom is envied,” he posited.

Andrews Nana Akwasi says under his leadership, the NDC has become more attractive and will continue with the drive of consolidating the gains of the party.

“The people of the Ashanti gave the NDC over 26% of votes and the current executive is committed to consolidating the gains of the party.”

He admonished party members to prioritise the interest of the party and avoid pronouncements which will put the NDC in a bad light.

“We need to champion the cause of our party and avoid acts that will cost us the 2024 elections.”
