A former head of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Ghana Police Service, Hamza Yakubu has implored the newly-appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) COP George Akuffo Dampare to strive to resist interference from political powers if he wants to succeed.

The experienced Policeman on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, was appointed in acting capacity to replace current IGP James Oppong-Boanuh effective Sunday, August 1, 2021.

Ahead of his takeover, Hamza Yakubu is backing him to bring what he describes as ‘the magic’ to the Police Service.

“I think it’s an appointment in the right direction. He’s a vibrant young man, he has the dream so he’s expected to bring the magic to the Police Service,” the former FPU said in an interview with Starr FM on Thursday morning.

According to Hamza Yakubu, the new job is a difficult one but COP George Dampare will succeed if he rejects political interference.

“He knows himself that one of the key things he’ll be facing will be interference from the powers that be. If he’s able to shy away from political interference, it’ll be okay with him,” the former FPU added.
