The Managing Director of Intercity STC Coaches Limited is unhappy how the Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu and former President John Dramani Mahama reacted to the Supreme Court ruling on the Deputy Speakers’ right to vote.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Ghana’ on Metro TV today, he stated that the Supreme Court can be criticised for its ruling.
In doing so, he noted, it was wrong to bastardize the court.
He noted that Former President John Mahama’s description of the court’s ruling as a judgement of convenience was a clear scandalization of the court.
Nana Akomea added that the Minority Leader in Parliament Haruna Iddrisu comments also seeks to scandalize the court when he (Haruna Iddris) claim the judgment was a vote for E-levy.
He emphasized that discussions surrounding the Supreme Court ruling should only be centered on criticisms and opinions devoid of insults.
“I don’t understand what the fury is about and I am totally disappointed in the political leadership of the minority side that is, the NDC, particularly President Mahama and also Haruna Iddrisu. I am very disappointed in their actions.
“The use of the Supreme Court, the provision that is made is to settle a dispute that’s all. You may disagree with the judgement of the Supreme Court that is fine. You can criticize them and you can express your disagreement its fine, but you don’t bastardize the court, you don’t scandalize the court. President Mahama has described the judgement as a judgement of convenience that is scandalizing the court.
“When you say it is a judgement of convenience it means the judges are not looking at the law, you have ascribed motives to their work. That is what President Mahama has done. Haruna Iddrisu, I heard him on TV saying this judgement is a vote for E-levy.
“When you say that the court is giving the judgement not on the face of their objective reading of the law, but is because they want to make a support for E-levy, a leader like Haruna Iddrisu, you are scandalizing the court,” he emphasised.
His comments follow the Supreme Court reaffirmation of First Deputy Speaker Joe Wise’s vote in Parliament when he presided over the approval of the 2022 budget.
