Dear H.E. Grace Jeanet Mason,

Your Excellency I am delighted to hear of your impending visit to the newly created Ahafo Region. We thank you for your interest in Ahafo Region. I surely know that, it is our leadership who contacted you so as to see the oppuortunitie in Ahafo Region.

Your Excellency, I want to draw your attention to some areas that could be of great interest to both countries. You may be wondering of what South Africa can offer to Ghana and Ahafo Region in particular. You may be wondering if South Africa has had any impact in our Region in any way, shape or form. You may be yearning to see evidence of such impact. It is always great to see evidence of impact and this whips up zeal to do more in the future.

I hope that you are aware of the impact South Africa already has made in Ahafo. If you have not been notified, it could be that many are not aware of the strong presence that South Africa has in Ahafo. It may be because they do not know or they have not been told or they did not ask the citizens to showcase any evidence of Ghana – South Africa Partnerships in Ahafo Region.

High Unemployment amongst the youth, high rates of unskilled labour, environmental degradation are examples of the challenges that bedevil our Region.

Your Excellency, it will interest you to know that some of these problems, if not all have been tackled to an extent using South African Technology. Yes Your Excellency, there is evidence in Ahafo Region.

The Hydraform Technology from South Africa has had a significant impact in Ahafo Region, Ghana. Using the Hydraform technology for construction, over 200 young people in Ahafo have been trained in Brick Construction and Brick laying. This means that in Ahafo, a South African technology has been used to provide construction skills to youth who were otherwise unskilled. This surely impacted on their employability and reduces the unemployment rate. The protection of our environment and our obligations towards SDG goals mean that, we need to use sustainable green technology. Hydraform technology from South Africa has had that positive impact in Ahafo.

I have seen the Iternary for tomorrow and I understand you will visit the Kukuom Government Hospital. Your Excellency, when going uphill to enter the health facility, to your right, there is a Brick Building built using Hydraform Technology. This means that the health infrastructure in Ahafo is benefitting from a South African Technology and more could be done.

Secondly in the town of Noberkaw ( hometown of the DCE of Asunafo South), there is a rice Factory which is built using Hydraform Technology. This is to showcase that industry has benefitted from South African Technology. Once again, more could be done.

Thirdly, when you are leaving to Goaso from Kukuom, kindly look to your right, there is also a residential unit which is evidence of South African technology’s influence in Ahafo. Once again more could be done.

Forth, when you are in Goaso, the Catholic Pastoral Centre is an area you cannot miss. It is located near Cocoa Station. This beautiful and serene enclave features numerous buildings including a big School (Mother Ignacia School) and a Guest House, built with Hydraform Technology in a scenic environment. Once again, more could be done.

Your Excellency, the fifth example of hydraform application is in a small village called Tanoso. It is just 5 minutes drive from Kukuom. It is 3 unit Public Toilet Facility I built and donated to the community. This facility has stood the test of time and promoted public health in the town. I imagine every village having this type of facility and it being built through the training of the youth. Once again, more could be done.

The need for investment in Ahafo Region is best situated if it involves the business community in Ahafo Region and i hope and know the business community is ready for business with their South African counterparts, be they in Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Johanesburg etc.

Your Excellency, I have only concerned myself writing about the active role of private sector initiatives in the construction industry which have been influenced by South African Technology. (At least what I know about). Once again, it could be that, more have not been highlighted.

I know that South Africa has alot to offer in Agriculture, Silviculture, Education, Healthcare, Mining, Conservation sectors and more.

On this note, I humbly appeal to you to place Ahafo Region high on your Agenda. The private sector, especially those of us in the Civil Engineering / Green Construction and Youth Empowerment and Skills Development space have already hit the ground and awaiting the catalyst for a boom in Ahafo Region and Ghana.

I hope this letter finds you before your visit and it brings good news to Ahafo Region, Ghana and South Africa.

Ke a leboha haholo.

Kind Regards,
Hon. Ing. Kobby Amoa-Mensah
