The NPP has in no uncertain terms, vehemently CONDEMNED a case of assault allegedly perpetrated by one Hajia Fati, a sympathizer of the party on a Multimedia journalist by name, Ohemaa Sekyiwaa which sad event occurred last Friday, May 4, at the party headquaters when Sammy Crabbe, the suspended 2nd Vice Chairman went to pick Applications Form. The party has also dissociated itself from the attack describing the act as unacceptable and repugnant.
In a statement issued by the party’s Acting General Secretary, John Boadu on Tuesday, May 8, the party did not only condemn the act but also dissociated itself from same. The party also used the occasion to reassure the nation’s journalists and the Ghanaian people of its unconditional respect for the Media as partners in development and its abhorrence for any act that seeks to suppress press freedom and impede the work of journalists thereby undermining the very respected inky fraternity.
John Boadu reaffirmed the position of the party when he granted an interview to Asempa Fm (ekosisem) of the Multimedia Group on Tuesday, May 8 on this subject. He also indicated that he would be visiting the journalist in question as well as the Multimedia Group when he returns to Accra to sympathize with them. This decision taken by the party has been hailed by many a people who perceive Hajia Fati as an albatross on the neck of the party especially at its headquarters due to her excesses.
The NPP Chief Scribe acknowledged the fact that the matter is being handled by the Police, which he said, is no substitute for the party’s own internal investigations which had commenced. He gave a firm assurance to the whole nation that the party shall fully cooperate with the law enforcement agency in the conduct of their investigations and pursuing the cause of justice for the journalist and by extension all media personnel in the country.
