The NPP led administration has shown to have farmers at heart. Just a few months ago COCOBOD distributed 3442 pieces of a multi purpose mechanized agricultural equipment to 210 cooperatives in Asunafo South. This distribution was in line with a nationwide program implemented by the government.

Our news research reveals that, Asunafo South had the largest number of equipment apportioned to any constituency.

In all a total of 210 cooperatives benefitted from the usage of the equipment. It is clear that some of the occupational hazards associated with farming in Asunafo South have surely been reduced if not eliminated. One farmer from Nakete by name Agya Kofi Nketia when interviewed had this to say:

“With this machine I now know that my waist pains and cuts sustained from the use of Cutlasses during weeding are over. Nana Addo really cares about farmers.”

This statement by the farmer confirms the fact that heavy reliance on Cutlasses for weeding is being phased out.

The efforts towards mechanising our agricultural industry is a welcoming development in Ghana.

‘Asunafo South which has its MP as Hon Eric Opoku as its MP and a ranking member on Agriculture and publicly known to make comments on the agricultural sector has failed to comment on this amazing program by the government. His lack of comment does not mean that the good people of Asunafo South do not appreciate the good works of the ruling government,’ according to Hon. Ing. Kobby Amoa-Mensah the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Asunafo South Constituency.

In another connected development, Hon. Ing. Kobby Amoa-Mensah highlighted that the government is currently giving free fuel to all cooperatives within the constituency to help farmer in the operation of the multi purpose machines.

Ahafo news confirmed that the provision of free fuel to farmers for the multi purpose agricultural equipment is true. On the 6th of April 2020, many cooperatives from areas such as thronged the Total fuel station in Kukuom to collect their share of fuel and oil for their machines. Other cooperatives in Sankore, Denyase, Siiso etc will be going for their share of free fuel on the 7th of April and those in the Nakete, Nnseinnua area will have their share on the 8th of March 2020.

Mr David Afriyie of Codapec, when contacted indicated that the fuel is freely being provided by the government for all cooperatives and nobody will pay a dime for fuel collected for the intended purposes.

Ahafo news will be monitoring any developments and keep you posted. We hope the representative farmers fo the respective cooperatives will be practicing social distancing when collecting their fuel and not crowd the fuel stations.
